Mayday: The Survival Island has a release date. Publisher indie.io and developer Pequi Studios used PAX West, running in Seattle from September 4 to 7, to confirm that the open-world survival game arrives on Steam on November 2, 2026. It launches on PC first. A demo is already available on the Steam page, and the game was playable on the show floor at the indie.io booth through the weekend.
What Mayday actually is
The setup is a familiar survival hook with a specific twist. After a mysterious crash you wake up alone, and the loop runs through hunting, farming, crafting, and animal herding while you build a base and push outward. What sets it apart on paper is the scale and the look: a vast archipelago of 24 islands, each one drawn by hand in top-down pixel art, with environments that range from misty swamps and beaches to ancient cemeteries and forgotten ruins. There is a story threaded through it too, about uncovering the truth behind your arrival and finding a way off.
A three-person team
Pequi Studios is a small Brazilian team of three, which makes the hand-drawn 24-island promise the most interesting and the most uncertain part of the pitch. Small survival games live or die on how much the systems actually connect once you are past the first hour, and a screenshot cannot answer that. The demo is the honest place to check: it is on Steam now, so you can test the crafting and the pace yourself rather than trust a trailer.
Why it matters
Survival crafting is one of the most crowded corners on Steam, and most new entries get lost in it. A distinct, handmade art style is a real way to stand out, and a firm November 2 date puts Mayday into the busy end of the year with something to prove. We have not played the full game, so we are not calling it a hit or a miss yet. The date is real, the demo is real, and those are the two things worth acting on today.
