Sony ran a double-length State of Play on September 3, and it was heavy on release dates rather than surprises. Here is what came out of it, sorted by what you should actually care about.

Sony's September 3 State of Play ran roughly double the usual length and packed in more than thirty games across two segments, but the headline is not a shock reveal. It is a wall of firm release dates. Final Fantasy VII Revelation set its launch, Until Dawn 2 finally has one, and Marvel's Wolverine is now days away. If you have been waiting for the back half of the PlayStation calendar to take shape, this is the show that did it. Here is everything that mattered, grouped by how soon it touches you.

The finale: Final Fantasy VII Revelation lands April 8, 2027

The remake trilogy has its ending. Square Enix confirmed Final Fantasy VII Revelation for April 8, 2027, on PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, with preorders open now. An extended gameplay segment showed open-world traversal aboard the Highwind airship, a new grappling gun for climbing, free party swapping at any time, and the new FITS system that hands characters Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner roles. Square Enix framed it as the finale of the trilogy, with the party racing to stop Sephiroth before the planet falls. It is the biggest thing in the show by a distance.

Out almost immediately: Marvel's Wolverine and Keeper

Marvel's Wolverine closed its marketing with a launch trailer ahead of its September 15 release on PS5. Insomniac's take on Logan is narrated by Liam McIntyre and stacked with mutants, including Sabertooth, Mystique, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, and Jean Grey. Reviews are set to arrive September 10, five days before launch. Sony also shadow-dropped Keeper, Double Fine's narrative adventure and a former Xbox exclusive, onto PS5 the same day as the show.

Dated for later: Until Dawn 2, Metro 2039, Hunter's Moon

Horror did the heavy lifting for early 2027. Until Dawn 2, developed by Firesprite with AdHoc Studio handling the story, arrives January 28, 2027, on PS5, with preorders opening September 10. It follows a fake ghost-hunting crew called Dead True as they investigate Akishima, a remote South Pacific island abandoned since a resort shut down in the 1970s, and it leans hard on choice and consequence. Metro 2039 was shown running on PS5 Pro and dated for February 4, 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Hunter's Moon, a first-person horror game set among 17th-century English witch hunts, arrives sooner, on October 26.

Sequels and expansions: Maneater 2, Ghost of Yotei, more

The shark is back. Maneater 2 was revealed for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Switch 2, and PC, this time built around escaping a resort called Neptune's Kingdom. Ghost of Yotei is getting a Complete Edition on October 1 that adds a run-based bounty-hunting mode called Most Wanted, with Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima playable inside it. Monster Hunter Wilds confirmed a major expansion for 2027, Crimson Desert dated a story expansion for October 15, and Gran Turismo 7 detailed a two-part Spec IV update across October and December.

Why it matters

This was a scheduling show, not a hype show, and that is arguably more useful. A State of Play built on confirmed dates tells you exactly how to spend money over the next seven months, and it tells publishers the lane is crowded. Marvel's Wolverine and Final Fantasy VII Revelation now bookend the window, with a thick layer of horror and mid-budget releases in between. The one caveat worth keeping: a launch trailer is a sales pitch, and a release date is a promise studios sometimes break. We will review the ones we can play, and we will not pretend a trailer told us how a game feels.
