No Man's Sky is coming to iPhone and iPad. Hello Games confirmed on October 12 that its vast space-survival game arrives on iOS through the App Store on October 28, 2026, a full native version rather than a cut-down spin-off. It is the latest stop for a game that has spent a decade expanding, and it brings almost all of that expansion with it.
The pitch is unusually generous for a phone release. The App Store listing describes a one-time purchase that unlocks the full game including ten years of updates, with no subscription and no in-app grind attached. You can also play the opening of the game for free before deciding to buy, which gives the handheld version a genuine try-before-you-buy on-ramp.
A decade of updates in your pocket
The reason this matters more than a typical port is what No Man's Sky has become since 2016. The iOS release folds in the long chain of major free updates the game has shipped over the years, from the earliest Foundation patch through the recent COSMOS overhaul, dozens of named updates that rebuilt the game piece by piece into something far larger than what launched.
That is the whole arc of No Man's Sky's redemption in a single download. The 2016 launch was one of the most infamous disappointments in modern gaming, a game that promised the universe and shipped something much smaller. Hello Games spent years quietly adding the missing pieces for free, and the version going to iPhone is the sum of all that work, not the apology it started as.
Built for recent hardware
A procedurally generated universe running on a phone is a real technical ask, and this is only possible because of how much Apple's recent chips have closed the gap with dedicated hardware. The iOS version is aimed at newer iPhone and iPad models, the same Metal-powered lineage that already let the game run on Mac.
No Man's Sky now spans an unusually wide spread of platforms, from PC and PlayStation and Xbox through Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and iOS slots in as the most portable option yet. For a game built around wandering off to the next planet whenever the mood strikes, a version that lives in your pocket is a natural fit.
Why it matters
Mobile ports of big console games too often arrive hollowed out, split into chapters, or wrapped in subscriptions and timers. No Man's Sky is going the other way: the entire game, a decade of additions, one price, a free trial, and nothing nagging you afterward. It is a statement about how a premium game can reach phones without being bent into a free-to-play shape.
If the October 28 launch lands cleanly, it also quietly makes the strongest case yet that the latest iPhones and iPads are legitimate platforms for sprawling, systems-heavy games, not just scaled-down versions of them. We reviewed No Man's Sky and still rate it one of the most rewarding exploration games to lose yourself in, and the idea of carrying that whole universe around is an easy one to like.
