Nintendo's September 9 Direct ran about 45 minutes and, as promised, it stayed focused on Nintendo Switch 2 games landing this winter and into early 2027. It followed the Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct from the day before, and between the two shows Nintendo has now laid out most of its holiday lineup. Here is what was announced, and which parts are worth circling on the calendar.

The headliners

The biggest surprise was Metroid Ravenous, a brand-new 2D Metroid coming to Switch 2 as an exclusive on January 28, 2027, with new powers, an amiibo, and a special edition. Monster Hunter Wilds is making the jump to Switch 2 on December 4, bundling in every past update plus local play, with the Ascendance expansion arriving the same day it hits other platforms. And Final Fantasy VII Revelation is coming to Switch 2 on April 8, 2027, with pre-orders opening on the eShop later that day and Crisis Core Reunion available right away.

Switch 2 editions, remasters, and updates

A large chunk of the show was upgrades and ports. Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition arrives November 12 with voice commands and a new Dandori Academy mode. Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 come to Switch 2 on October 16, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort follows on October 22. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Definitive Edition is dated December 3, with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Definitive Edition on February 25, 2027. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam lands December 10, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis on February 12, 2027, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is set for 2027. Star Fox is getting a free update on September 29 that adds split-screen Battle Mode and new stages, while Star Fox Adventures joins the GameCube library on Nintendo Switch Online.

Why it matters

Taken together, this is Nintendo stacking the Switch 2's first real holiday stretch with both a headline exclusive and a deep bench of ports that give the install base something to buy every few weeks. Metroid Ravenous is the reveal people will remember, but the practical story is that the winter calendar is now dated and concrete rather than vague. We will cover the ones worth your money as they arrive, and we are not judging anything on a trailer. For now, the dates are the news.
