Ocarina of Time Is Reborn on Switch 2 This November, and Zelda's 40th Got a Real Party

This is a rebuilt Ocarina of Time rather than a simple upscale. Nintendo is touting overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, smoother movement, and a reworked camera, while keeping the original adventure intact underneath. The most novel touch uses the Switch 2's built-in microphone: alongside the usual button presses, you can hum ocarina melodies to play them. Nintendo also highlighted the ability to jump and dive underwater, small additions that change how you move through a world players have known for decades.

The remake did not arrive alone. A special-edition Ocarina of Time console and Pro Controller go on sale October 29, ahead of the game. New amiibo follow in 2027, with figures that unlock N64-style Link and Zelda masks to wear in game. On the collectible side, a LEGO Ocarina of Time set is planned for spring 2027. Beyond products, Nintendo announced a worldwide Zelda concert tour beginning in January in Japan before reaching the US, UK, and Australia, with tickets going on sale later in September, plus a 40th anniversary exhibition at the Nintendo Museum and daily Zelda cards in the Nintendo Today! app.

Ocarina of Time is the game a huge part of the industry grew up on, so a faithful Switch 2 remake is a genuine event, not just another port. The real question a trailer cannot answer is whether the new camera and controls modernize it without sanding off what made the original special, and we will not pretend to know until we play it. What is certain today is the date, November 5, and that Nintendo is treating the 40th like the milestone it is.
