Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Gets a Switch 2 Edition on December 3, With New Story Content

On the technical side, the Switch 2 Edition adds 4K resolution and a higher framerate of up to 60 frames per second, a real difference for a game this large and this busy in combat. On the content side, Nintendo listed a new Hero and an accompanying Hero Quest, newly voiced event scenes, and a new roguelike mode where your party defends against waves of enemies. Existing Switch owners are covered too: an upgrade pack lets them move to the enhanced version without buying the whole game again.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a long, systems-heavy RPG, exactly the kind of game that benefits from a steadier framerate and a cleaner image, so the technical bump is more than a checkbox. The added Hero and roguelike mode also give returning players a reason to come back rather than just replay. We have not tested how the enhancements hold up in the busiest fights, which is where framerate matters most, but the December 3 date and the paid-upgrade path for existing owners are confirmed today.
